He loves this book - we read it two times in a row every night before he goes to bed.
He has parts of it memorized and he "reads" it along with me.
I look forward to it every day.
It's one those moments where I'm completely content...

Isn't it the most perfect book ever? The absolute most perfect book from the rhythm of the words, to the choice of words on each page, the simplicity of the illustrations and the black and white alternating with the colored illustrations of the whole room, the light outside, inside, lamps and fire as it changes and how the mouse moves about, it is perfect. I've read 1000s of children's books and own many but this book is by far always and will always be in my top three ever. You nailed it - contentment in its purest form.
I love this book too....simple and sweet.
If I may be a teacher for a moment. You know, of course, that you are pretty much guaranteeing that Jack will be a great reader and thus have success in school by reading books so often that he begins to memorize them. So, even if you occasionally accidentally bop him on the owie on his forehead, you are a great mom!
This is one of our favortites too!!! I always try to buy this as a baby shower gift. A classic!
Gina got a copy for Dylan at her baby shower. We actually wore out the books. It was completely destroyed from over use. We couldn't even save it for Megan we had to buy a tougher board book for her when she came around. I think I still have it memorized.
My former foster son, Joshua, would "read" it to me and I to him. Reading your post brings back memories of hearing Joshua say, "Oodnigh 'oon." :)
